LDK Consultants Project “SWIM and Horizon 2020 SM” organized its 1st Regional Training on Drought Risk Management on 14-15 December 2016, in Athens, Greece
within the framework of a seminal EC contract promoting water resources management in the Southern Mediterranean Region, under the title of “Sustainable Water Integrated Management – Horizon 2020 Support Mechanism” (SWIM-H2020 SM)
Nominees from the sectors of water, agriculture, irrigation and other water-intensive sectors of most of the Partner Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia) were trained to the concepts of proactive Drought Risk Management as per the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other agencies.
In his welcome remark, Mr. Stavros Damianidis, CEO of LDK Consultants and Project Director of SWIM-H2020 SM, pointed out that the need for a proactive drought management is imperative; therefore, the Project will develop a series of individual steps (technical, institutional, legislative, etc.) and a holistic strategy as an integral part of environmental and development policy in these countries.
The Project (www.swim-h2020.eu) is to develop 100 activities in the next 2,5 years.
