Provided services during the project included implementation of following activities:
- survey on waste;
- survey on water;
- national inventory on air emissions;
- study on sustainable indicators development;
- harmonisation of national system with EU standards and regulations;
- development of institutional structures between the different entities.
Description
The overall objectives of the project were:
- to enable environmental statistical system to measure the state of environment by setting up of the indicators for evaluating sustainable development in Romania and its impact upon the economic and social life;
- to ensure the integration of the Romanian statistical system in the European statistical system, including the establishment of a harmonised database with key environmental statistical indicators;
- to establish necessary sound structures for environmental statistics, set up in the frame of a coordinated and coherent institutional development involving both National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies and Ministry of Waters and Environment;
- to develop statistical researches on waste, emissions, water use and discharges to water.
The specific objectives of the project were:
- to implement the surveys on waste;
- to implement the surveys on water;
- to implement a national inventory for air emissions;
- to build up a statistical series on sustainable development indicators on an environmental reference with the Romanian conditions.
The results through the project were the following:
- coherent and reliable environmental statistics as a support for decision making process at central and regional levels in the field of environmental protection;
- high level of compliance of Romanian environmental statistics with EU standards and regulations;
- facilitation of the evaluation in the accession negotiation process of the state of environment in Romania, by providing environmental statistics compatible with EU system;
- implementation of a sustainable surveys system for environmental statistics;
- publication on environmental indicators resulted from the data processing of the statistical surveys' results;
- institutional agreements based on the specific role in observing the state of environment, co- operation and mutual advantage between the main producers of environment statistic data: National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies, Ministry of Waters and Environment and other governmental and non-governmental institutions.
