The largest building integrated with photo-voltaic installation in Africa, where the I&M Bank Ltd new headquarters are located, has been completed in Nairobi, Kenya.
Some of world's leading companies, among them LDK Consultants, have prepared and implemented this iconic project.
The key design idea is that the building’s huge photovoltaic glass (2,200 m²), its 9-storey naturally ventilated atrium and the glazed skylight act as a solar panel.

LDK Africa Limited provided the Preliminary Design, Detail Design, Construction Design and Site Supervision of the building’s MEP installations. In detail:
Water Supply / Sewage and Rainwater / HVAC / Electrical power (Medium voltage and Low voltage networks, Substation, Generators, Earthing) / Voice – Data / Security Systems (CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, Electric Fence) / Fire Fighting / Fire Detection / Earthing and Lightning Protection System / Building Management System (BMS)

In order to have an idea of the project’s size and complexity, here are the building’s main components:

  1. Four basements providing Parking spaces for the building and M/E areas (17,800 m2)
  2. Ground floor with retail/commercial use (1,390 m²)
  3. Nine office floors including the Bank use and a Library on the 9th floor (9,000 m²)
  4. A roof top area for common use (530 m²)
  5. Data center of Tier 2 to 3 and IT Department for the bank use (1,280 m2)

The total built up area is estimated to be 30,000 m².
