Type of Services

The project included the final design and construction supervision of civil works and mechanical and electrical installations, including extensive project management i.e. time management, financial management, purchasing, etc. The individual elements of the project were the following studies:

  • Track alignment;
  • Urban Design;
  • Design of stops and stations;
  • Traction power substations;
  • Overhead line equipment;
  • Low voltage design;
  • Depot/workshop design;
  • Technical works;
  • Control and communication;
  • Design of temporary works;
  • Study for traffic arrangements;
  • Traffic lights arrangement;
  • Noise and vibration study;
  • Health, safety and prevention programme;
  • Environmental studies;
  • Lightning protection for buildings;
  • Compatibility of RS;
  • Electromagnetic interference;
  • Quality management program;
  • Geotechnical and geomechanical plan;
  • Urban planning.

Description

The project referred to as the "Construction of Civil Works, Procurement, Installation and Commission of Mechanical and Electrical Equipment and Detailed Final Design for the Modern Tramway (TRAM) in Greater Athens". The project concerned:

  • the detailed final design;
  • and the construction supervision of civil works and mechanical & electrical installations for the construction of the modern tramway (TRAM) in greater Athens.

This tramway project has a total length of 23,8km, with 48 stops in total and one depot, consisting of (operations' wise) the following two lines:

  • Line T1: 14.2 km length - Zappio - Fix - N.Smirni - P.Faliro - N.Faliro (ISAP station);
  • Line T2: 15.4 km length – N.Faliro - P.Faliro - Ag.Kosmas - Glifada.

The section between N.Faliro and P.Faliro, length of approximately 5.8 km, is common to both lines. Therefore, the alignment consists of 3 sections:

  • Section S1: SEF - Paleo Faliro (junction between Achilleos and Poseidonos Ave.);
  • Section S2: Paleo Faliro (junction between Achilleos and Poseidonos Ave.) – Zappio;
  • Section S3: Paleo Faliro (junction between Achilleos and Poseidonos Ave.) – Glifada.

All the sections traverse above the ground. The second section traverses areas with urban characteristics, whereas the other two sections follow the coastline.

The overall tramway project was designed to operate in combination with the other public transport systems (Bus, Metro, Railway,etc) and service a substantial amount of passengers, with ridership forecasts of highly increased use in the near future. The overall project value amounts to 213,573,000 euros.
