Description
The objective of this project was to elaborate a series of studies aiming to the reorganisation of the energy sector of Albania. The project comprised following activities:
- analysis of electricity demand and analysis of the feasibility of using alternative energy forms;
- determination of the power production capacity, identification of options for future power generation capacity and elaboration of a least cost power generation investment programme, including thermal and hydro power stations;
- preparation of alternative programmes for the rehabilitation and expansion of the power transmission system;
- analysis of technical and non-technical losses;
- review and recommendation on the proposed SCADA system to be implemented in Albania;
- determination of the rehabilitation requirements and investments in the new distribution capacity;
- evaluation of the feasibility for a district heating system in Tirana;
- investigation of the feasibility of importing natural gas to Albania;
- estimation of the future demand for oil products;
- recommendation of investment plans for the power sector, district heating, natural gas and oil and identify financing options;
- analysis and recommendations for modifications in the existing tariff system;
- institutional capacity development.
